Just-finished shawl & other items

Image
I just finished the above shawl. The yarn is alpaca, yak fiber and silk and has a nice dry touch. Also:  Recent item (closeup) knit in the "Porcupine" stitch, which actually looks more flower-like to me. It is reversible. And the items below are a recently completed baby blanket and hat knit for charity. The blanket is crocheted and the hat is knit in the "St. John's Wort" pattern.

Norah's Knits & Handcrafts will be selling at the Old North St. Louis House Tour & Arts Festival on Saturday, Sept. 16, 10-5. Should be a wonderful day. More info on House Tour tickets, etc., here: https://www.onsl.org/ ps - I heard that House Tour tickets come with a free scoop of ice cream at Crown Candy Kitchen. This neighborhood-wide house tour and arts festival will show off the warmth of the community, the richness and character of the architecture, the beauty of the community gardens and green spaces, public art, and the dynamic revitalization in progress. This year the big day is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10:00AM- 5:00PM and will include homes, gardens, murals, and a new arts installation at the Griot Museum on historic St. Louis Ave. In addition, an Arts Festival will be held in Crown Square with local artists, vendors, food trucks, and live entertainment.

Finished Ostrich Plume scarf - Field Linen

Image
Here's a pic of the finished Ostrich Plume scarf in Purl Soho Field Linen. Very nice yarn to work with!!

Experiment with a swatch

Image
I prepare this as a sample to show one method of knitting a right-angle asymmetric shawl.  An alternative way to work Row 1 and Row 2 would be: Row 1: Knit to last 2 stitches, knit in front & back of second to last stitch (KFB), knit 1, turn. Row 2: Knit all stitches across. In other words, putting the increase at the end of the row instead of at the beginning. Also, my sample was done in purl garter stitch (all purl stitches), not knit garter.  This sample shows a method similar to this shawl, without step 3 (that is, no decreases, and this shawl used 2 different lace patterns:   Second post of the day because the sample above is not at all similar to the Ostrich Plume pattern shawl in ivory linen yarn, which was the first post of the day.

Ostrich Plume stitch, Linen yarn

Image
Cast on for a linen shawl. The yarn is Field Linen from Purl Soho, stitch is Ostrich Plume (an Old Shale variation). Size 5 needles (yarn band calls for US 2-4 needles). 59 stitches: 3x 17 for the pattern, 4 stitches on each edge in purl garter (purl every row). The yarn is very nice - website says it is French linen spun in Japan. (Exotic.) ps - The size 8 needles in the pic were too big - didn't feel or look right.
