There was an article in a recent Vogue Knitting magazine about speckled yarn - noticed it this morning while waking up with coffee and browsing. I'm working on a scarf using Malabrigo Mechita, color 691 Renaissance - and really enjoying the colors in this yarn! The pattern is mainly stockinettestitch, with wide garter borders and randomly-placed lace insets.

I've been on a roll with this technicque - made 3 items total, two of them are laid out for blocking at the moment. Photos --- These are pics of two items side by side - a narrower scarf (purple-ish edging) and a wider small wrap. Both worked lengthwise in filet crochet, using mixed yarns, leaving a "tail" which is incorporated into fringe.

Our St. Louis Weavers Guild Knitters & Spinners Group met on Monday evening (June 18) at the U. City Library, and had a look at the afghan squares made by various members. Here's a pic - the square in the lower right hand corner is one of mine: These squares really need to be seen in person - great job by all concerned! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product! Here's a picture of a scarf in filet crochet that I started at the meeting and finished since then:  This was crocheted in triple crochet with two chains in between, lengthwise, leaving longish tails to incorporate into the fringe.

Our WGSL study group (Spinners & Knitters) is working on an afghan project - we purchased a local fleece, had it processed for spinning, and are sharing the work of turning the fiber into an afghan. Several members have spun the yarn for the project, and then the yarn is being knitted up into squares. I knitted several squares in lace patterns, and another member just blocked them (she will also be assembling the project). I was really worried about these squares, since I made them smaller than I should have (I thought), but they blocked to the right size. Here's a pic: I'm looking forward to the All-Missouri Spin-In on Saturday ! I'm going attend a workshop and will be volunteering also.

Several more items spread out for blocking. The blue beret and cowl are made from mill-spun yarn and are worked in crochet. The dark red shawl is knitted from handspun yarn purchased at the Weavers Guild of St. Louis annual sale (in October each year). The dark red yarn has more black spun into it than appears in the pic.
